It seems like the last couple of weeks have really flown by. There’s just seven Sundays to go now. Lots of solid match-ups for the top players this week. It seems like the last couple of weeks have been fairly advantageous for lower valued teams as many of the consensus bargain players had great games. This week I expect (hope?) that trend will reverse.

It turns out Brady didn’t make any of my perfect lineups. For those of you at $600 or above he’s a great play but otherwise it seems that money might be better spent elsewhere. You can probably upgrade 2 or 3 different positions with the money it takes to go from McNabb ($50) to Brady ($111). Obviously you hate to miss it if he goes crazy again, but he’s only human just like all the other NFL QBs, and I have to hesitantly recommend staying away unless you’re rich enough to afford your ideal lineup.
That’s all I’ve got. By the way, if you’re in the top 6 on RotoHog right now please send me your IP address so I can block you from accessing my site. Thanks!
Edit: I’m not going to go redo the image, but that should be McNabb in place of Manning on the $550 lineup (though you can’t really go wrong with either).
I’ll probably get some hate for continuing to ride Tomlinson, but I think it’s too soon to take him out of the elite tier of backs. Brees continues to sit atop my rankings (I finally managed to pick him up, by the way). WR is a nightmare guessing game as always. Usually at this point in the year you start to feel pretty confident about the strength of each team on either side of the ball. Honestly, I don’t feel that way this year. As an example, New Orleans offense went from explosive to anemic in one offseason and appears to have bounced all the way back to the other side (but who knows?).

The ideal lineup remains very affordable compared to most weeks (typically it swells to about $600 my Friday). I went ahead and threw the “I’m Broke” lineup in with these.
As I did this Monday, I will review these once again next Monday to see how they fare. Hopefully they’ll be a little better than last week. Anyway, hit me with some feedback.
It’s a little later than I intended, but the $275 lineup is here. I think this is a very good lineup for the money. Pretty much everyone on here is a great deal this week from my perspective.
I meant to get this out much earlier, but I was out of the house and then had some technical difficulties when I got ready to go to business on it. Still there’s about 30 minutes left to make any last-minute adjustments before free-trade Wednesday runs out.
One more thing before I go. This commercial makes me grin every single time it comes on:
It turns out not having Brady or Moss available makes the lineups a lot cheaper. Also, some of the better starts this week are the cheap guys. My ideal lineup usually requires about $550 at this point in the week; this week the (almost) ideal lineup is affordable at about $440.
If I were smarter I’d have underrated Brees here since he’s sold out and I’d like to buy him, but he checks in as the #1 QB. If you’re on a tight budget Losman is an early Christmas gift this week, and he’s already been deemed the starter. The top RBs this week are all familiar names, so really no surprises there. At WR, Santonio Holmes is another early Christmas gift as he goes up against that Cleveland defense. Finally, Tony G gets the nod at TE as the Chiefs will be passing more than ever and that Denver D is just bad this year.

As I said before the perfect lineups are shockingly cheap. The $450 “Ideal” lineup is actually one player off. Technically, I have Tomlinson projected higher than Westbrook, but the difference is small and the cost is significant.
I’ll release a $275 “I’m Broke” lineup this afternoon/evening. As always, good luck (unless you’re in the top 4).
Here’s the updated version. Hopefully those of you in this range were able to jump on some guys like Bowe and Hackett this week to get that budget up. Good luck!
Also, starting next week I’m going to try out a new idea where I go head-to-head with a couple of my devoted readers (I’ll be soliciting competitors soon). Basically I’ll build a suggested lineup under the owner’s current budget constraint and we’ll compare results. I’m also going to start revisiting my perfect lineups to see how they performed (credit to Homey on the RH forums for the suggestion).
Some things were shuffled around, but the general ideas are the same here. The Cleveland offense got a pretty strong boost which I think many of you will appreciate. For those of you on very low budgets, it looks like the secret got out on D.J. Hackett as his price is now over $11.
My lineup will definitely consist of Brady, Tomlinson, and Gates, but beyond that a lot of these decisions are still up in the air. WR will almost surely be 3 out of Edwards, Wayne, Housh, and Moss, but I’m not sure which is the odd man out just yet. If ukula is reading this he’d better not copy my lineup.

Here are the updated perfect lineups. Again the $350 and $450 ones are “safe”; the $550 one is not. If you’re under $600 or so you may want to consider if it’s worth it to play both Brady and Moss. I’ll try to work up another $275 lineup later this afternoon as well.
Breaking News: Noticed this just as I was going to publish this entry. It looks like Travis Henry has bought at least a couple more weeks this season. From the Denver Post article: “An NFL spokesman confirmed Henry’s league appeal is set to be heard Nov. 16 in New
York, but like the previous assigned date, it could be moved back again.”
The season just keeps rolling along. After this weekend we’ll be past the halfway point for the year, and into the homestretch. These projections feel pretty rough, so Saturday may be a lot different. Hasselbeck gets a huge boost as he goes against Cleveland, and Houshmandzadeh joins Moss on the must-start list at WR this week. I know a lot of people are hesitant to go with Tomlinson given the Norv-factor, but I still think he’s the best option most weeks.

The $350 and $450 perfect lineups are “safe” again this week. That means no teams who will be on bye in Week 10 (NYJ, TB, NE, HOU). There are no byes in Week 11, so that will no longer be an issue starting next week. If you are under $550 I strongly recommend avoiding Brady. You stand to lose a lot of money if you do and you’ll be short that money for 8 more weeks. Not starting him this week may give you the ability to afford him many times in later weeks.
Once again the ideal lineup is affordable right now for those at $550. If the usual pattern holds this won’t be the case come Saturday. Remember that these are based on your current team value, not what you expect your team value will be later in the week (because the prices of players will be going up in proportion to your increases in team value).
I feel like I’m throwing darts at a dart board over here. I’ve at least settled on Brady, Roethlisberger, Tomlinson, Moss, and Gates. That second RB slot is driving me nuts though, and I’m not convinced on my other 2 WRs either. Anyway, lots of good discussion to be had especially in regards to that 2nd RB slot. Let’s hear what you guys think.

The ideal lineup is no longer affordable at $550. I think the only difference is it has Gore instead of Peterson which is pretty much a wash. The $350 and $450 lineups are still “safe” meaning they include no players on bye in Week 9 (CHI, MIA, NYG, STL). I want to stress again that it’s my opinion that it is essentially never worth it for teams at those budgets to start someone who will be on bye the following week. For the record, I feel the same way about leaving any roster slots empty.
Sorry about the lack of posts yesterday. Seems to be kind of a slow week. I redid the perfect lineups to be “safe.” This means that none of the players I recommend have byes in Week 7 (GB, Car, Cle, SD). Unless you’re really rich or you really like his match-up, it’s generally never worth it to start a guy who is going into his bye week.

Well, for all my talking him down you might be surprised to see Chad Johnson in the #2 slot at WR. The fact is he’s just that good, and there’s not a lot of other great options this week. I stand by my statement that KC is a pretty legit pass defense. Also, I’m having some doubts about Westbrook being 100% so I bumped him down a few slots. If it comes out that he’s feeling good this week he could probably slide back up to Ronnie Brown’s neighborhood.

I’ve adjusted up the perfect lineup budgets by $25 this week. I plan to spread them out a bit next week ($350, $450, $550). If you feel like I’m missing your budget pretty badly on these somehow, let me know. Brown, Driver, Fitz, and Gates all came out as pretty must-have this week given their current pricing.
